Al Jazeera unveils its English channel

"Arabic satellite TV network Al Jazeera says it plans to hire more than 300 people globally in a bid to launch an English-language news channel before the end of next year. The network said last month it planned to launch an English-language news channel to counteract what it says is unbalanced reporting from Western networks such as CNN and the BBC.

In July 2004, Waddah Khanfar (network's general manager) said there was a project for launching an international daily newspaper... but the English channel would be launched first.
