Last night, I went to Les Coulisses du Blog, a panel presentation sponsored by Six Apart and moderated by Loic Le Meur, on the topic of journalism and blogs. Eight speakers -- bloggers and journalists (or both) -- talked about their projects to an audience of nearly 100 people.
Today, Liberation, L'Express and, particularly, Le Monde, three top French newspapers, have all embraced blogging in a variety of ways.
Bertrand Pecquerie, director of the World Editor's Forum and blogger at editorsweblog.org had many interesting things to say. He described how in the US the journalist - blogger debate is an often-nasty combat. He worries about the lack of an editorial body for bloggers. For example, he said, journalists have a group behind them who analyzes the facts, provides guidance, etc. He refers to this group as a collective intelligence. He believes this collective intelligence is missing in the blogosphere.

Interesting. I actually ran into Loïc le Meur at the time when headed B2L. Always fun to keep track of one's former contacts...
