Fact checking Hans Bergström

Jag har tidigare beklagat avsaknaden av faktakontrolerande svenska bloggar.
Hans Bergsrtöms ledarartikel om John Kerry i gårdagens Dagens Nyheter är ett utmärkt "kollbar" exempel.
Och det har kollats.
Men inte av någon svensk blogg, utan av en amerikansk journalist -Daniel Kreiss- på besök i Stockholm. Jag skäms en aning över vår (f)lathet.

Kreiss skriver:
Knowing that Dagens Nyheter tends to have a problem with accuracy, I wanted to correct the record here (translation provided by a friend.) Overall, Bergstrom's piece is a broadside on Kerry that is a) inaccurate, b) misleading, c) does not take into account current trade rules and tax policy, and, d) does not account for certain realities in running an American presidential campaign.

Han går igenom artikel nästan mening för mening, med länkar till statistik, till Kerrys egna uttalanden, till rapporter från konservativa tankesmedjor som Cato Institute.

Ett exempel:

[Borgström skriver] ;"4. The double taxation, in combination with a high company tax and tax on dividends, should be kept."

[Kreiss] This is completely misleading. Kerry actually proposed cutting corporate taxes by 5 percent, from 35 percent to 33.25 percent. To pay for this reduction, Kerry is proposing to require companies to pay taxes on their international income as they earn it rather than being allowed to defer it.

Och Kreiss avsluter med:

Mr. Bergstrom, with all due respect, if you are going to meddle in our election at least get your facts right and provide your readers with the context they need to understand Mr. Kerry's positions. Your editorial is not only wrong and misleading, but I also question whether it holds up to journalistic standards.
